If you think you might have the virus, start with this screening tool.

For people who receive Employment and Income Assistance (EIA), if you need to reach an EIA worker, please don’t go in to their office. Instead, clients are asked to contact staff through the call centre, in order to follow public health recommendations on social distancing. Phone lines are open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 204-948-2888. Clients can also email the department at or try emailing your EIA worker directly.

For those wanting to access Rent Assist, they may close their office at 114 Garry at any time, but you should be able to drop off applications in their drop box. Be aware that if you try to send anything (applications or otherwise) through the mail, Canada Post does not guarantee that it will be delivered on time.

The City of Winnipeg also has its own Covid-19 update page

You may have heard that Prime Minister Trudeau announced that some Canadians and businesses will receive some extra financial help during the pandemic. Here is the government website and here is a summary of what the government announcement means. Of special note, under the “Flexibility for Taxpayers” heading on the government website, it explains some changes to tax deadlines for this year. One change is that the due date to file your taxes has now been extended to June 1. However, you are encouraged to submit your taxes earlier, if possible, to make sure there is no disruption in receiving benefits like GST payments or the Canada Child Benefit. Here is a list of free tax software that can help you file your taxes on your own. Or, if you want to wait and get help from NJH to file your taxes please sign up for our email list, check our FacebookInstagram and/or website

If you’re a temporary or permanent resident, you may find this page helpful.

Finally, here is advice from the World Health Organization:

  1. Be SAFE from coronavirus infection.
  2. Be SMART & inform yourself about it.
  3. Be KIND & support one another.
